Week one is over! Don't worry I survived (barely). My time in the online Missionary Training Center (or as it is called in Spanish, the CCM) has been mentally exhausting, but I have learned so much. Spanish is terribly hard, but my teachers have been patient and have helped me out a ton. It is comforting to see the rest of my district struggling right along with me though. Although, as I have learned more Spanish, I have come to realize just how weird the English language is. It has so many different sounds, a lot of “rules,” and spelling is so strange. This is not to say that Spanish is simple, I have learned well over 100 words, but I still can barely form a sentence. My progress is astonishing, I have learned more in a week of studying Spanish than I ever did over the two years of Spanish I took in school. I have a strong testimony in the Gift of Tongues, and I know I could not do this without God's help.
The first few days of the CCM were spent learning about what our mission is going to look like, meeting our district and companions, and introducing the structure of the CCM. My first companion, Elder Malasky, is a cool dude. He has some pet frogs, he's from Utah, and is very nice. The rest of my district, consisting of 4 other Elder companions and a single Sister companionship, are all very smart and super fun to talk with. It is exciting to think that this will be my group for the next 5 weeks. We are all so supportive of each other and encourage each other to speak as much Spanish as we can.
The last few days were spent learning Spanish and learning how to talk to EVERYONE, and why we do it. It is daunting to think in a matter of weeks I will be speaking to random people on the street about my beliefs in Spanish, but I am also so excited to go out and touch people's hearts. I will get to practice this with a potential nonmember investigator next week though and I am slowly getting hyped for it.
It is a huge blessing to have the opportunity to do this, it requires a lot of sacrifice, such as sleep, but my spiritual and mental growth has never been this large. I am excited for the weeks to come, and I have loved the ability to have my name right alongside Christ's this week and the chance to have it there for 2 years. I hope everyone is doing great. Adios!
