Week 5 - Done and Dusted

This week was pretty normal, classes every day, working on Spanish grammar, and practicing teaching. The Spanish is improving quite a bit, and I am so glad that some phrases are becoming second nature to me. Speaking in any other tense other than present is difficult though. Some of my adventures from this week: I got a cold or allergies earlier last week, and they got pretty bad, went through about 2 boxes of tissues in one day. Luckily it wasn't COVID, but it was gross.  Yesterday me and Elder Malasky got locked out of our room so we had to run to the reception desk shirtless for a key. I have never run so fast, especially since we have to pass by the Hermanas (the sister missionaries) apartments. I mean I'm a pretty attractive dude, but nobody needs to see me running after curfew without a shirt. It's quite funny now, not so much in the moment. I have grown a lot spiritually this week. We get to have a lot of devotionals and a lot of our talks are about finding your purp...

Week 3-4 At the CCM (sorry it's a bit long)

Hey guys, so my first P Day (my preparation day where I have more free time) today, it's been a while since my last email, so I got some stuff to catch you up on. Last week I left Dallas and arrived in Mexico City. My first day at the CCM was pizza day which was awesome, and I got settled into my little house with all the other Elders. It has been amazing to get to know my district and my teachers in person, we have had a lot of fun. My friends at home will be proud to know I am showering daily, and the gym is a constant part of my morning routine. The devotional every other night have been good, I'd be lying if I said I haven't taken a good nap in each of them, but from what I've listened to they have been good. Most of them have been about faith, I never knew you could go so in depth with it. We also had an optional choir, never thought I would be part of it, but it was fun. We sang the EFY medley, if you don't know what that is look it up, it's awesome. Today...

Week 2 - Mexico here I come!

Week 2 is finally over. Not a whole lot happened this week different from the last. I am coming to realize just how awesome my district is though. We have gotten the chance to meet with the other missionaries in big conferences and stuff. I am very happy to have a group of people who know so much, are so sure of who they are, and are so respectful. Not to say that my district is a bunch of goofs, but we all know when it's time to play and when it's time to dig in and get to work. We have a lot of fun, but we all have so many good insights and life experiences that the spirit is always strong with us. This week I got to teach a REAL investigator. All. In. Spanish. By the end of it, I was so sweaty you would think I just finished a race at swim. In all seriousness though it was an awesome experience. I was genuinely surprised about how well I knew what to say and how to transition between ideas in a language I had just begun to learn. I still floundered quite a bit and...

Week 1 of the MTC

Week one is over! Don't worry I survived (barely). My time in the online Missionary Training Center (or as it is called in Spanish, the CCM) has been mentally exhausting, but I have learned so much. Spanish is terribly hard, but my teachers have been patient and have helped me out a ton. It is comforting to see the rest of my district struggling right along with me though. Although, as I have learned more Spanish, I have come to realize just how weird the English language is. It has so many different sounds, a lot of “rules,” and spelling is so strange. This is not to say that Spanish is simple, I have learned well over 100 words, but I still can barely form a sentence. My progress is astonishing, I have learned more in a week of studying Spanish than I ever did over the two years of Spanish I took in school. I have a strong testimony in the Gift of Tongues, and I know I could not do this without God's help. The first few days of the CCM were spent learning about what our...
