Interesting Facts about the Oregon Eugene Mission

  • As of March 2022, The Oregon Eugene Mission encompasses the southwest area of Oregon from the coast to the Cascade mountains. It also includes parts of California and Nevada. 

  • Oregon has 2 operating temples in Portland and Medford. The Willamette Valley Temple was announced in 2021 located near Eugene. 
  • The weather is moderate. Rarely dropping below freezing nor rising above 80 degrees. Depending on what area Elder Porter is in, he can expect anywhere from 30-200 inches of rain annually. Everyone tells him to “waterproof everything”.
  • The University of Oregon in Eugene is the birthplace of Nike.
  • Oregon has no sales tax.
  • Except for certain hours of the day, attendants are required to pump your gas. 
  • Oregon has the only 2 sided flag in the US.
  • Apparently, EVERYONE has either lived in Oregon or is related to someone in Oregon.
  • EVERYONE also thinks Oregon is beautiful!

 July 31, 2023 Sorry, I keep doing this 😂 July has been a great month. I'm 20 now, that's wack. Sadie keeps talking about how it's weird to tell people she has an older brother that's living away from home who's 20. I still feel way less mature than what I thought someone my age would be. Definitely still a kid. Thank you to everyone who reached out, I am incredibly sorry I responded to none of you. I promise I read your emails and enjoy them. Updates on the work! I'm still here in Ashland, we are working a lot with the members here and in the YSA. It has been a miracle to have people in both wards who are so passionate about the gospel and sharing it with others. We have one older guy who we visit weekly, he goes by Knucklehead. December 12, 2022 Week has been wild, I can say that much. Monday was a lot of packing and the next day I headed off to Eugene. The car ride was very long, very pretty, and now I am here! From day one I knew we were gonna be going full steam ahead. We have contacted so many people, put 2 people on date, got 9 return appointments, and the members have been feeding us very well. There are so many people to visit here it is almost too much to handle. Luckily my companions know this area pretty well, they have both been here more than once throughout their time serving missions. As zone leader we have to lead a couple meetings and stuff, sadly I got put in charge of one, and I definitely got some stage fright and fumbled. Oh whale, it happens. I am struggling to get to know everyone, but it will come with time. Hopefully I can memorize their names at least and kinda get to know how each of the companions are doing. Merry Christmas and Happy new year!

 January 1, 2024 Hey everyone long time no see. I'm doing pretty well out here in Roseburg. My previous companion just left for Springfield and my new comp, Elder Bousfield, is awesome. He's a huge metal head (loves rock) and I am facing endless waves of nostalgia as he plays some of my favorite songs on the guitar and drums. He's pretty good too. Anyway long story short holidays are always rough on the mission. Not a whole lot of people want to random guys to visit their family when the festivities are going but luckily I'm not sick and my companion isn't sick so it could be worse.  Our friends are progressing really well, we are teaching 5ish people and I'm getting a lot better with teaching English. The English class is growing slowly and a couple of them want to come to church! Woo hoo! This year has gone by in a blur, I have learned so much.
